about

Between Culture, Beyond Culture

A community for those who exist between and beyond cultural boundaries, creating spaces where identity is fluid and connection is deep.

About Third Circles

Third Circles is inspired by third place theory which is all about the importance of places where people can gather and connect outside of home and work. At Third Circles, we seek to find and create these types of places for Black and Brown adults who have navigated different cultures throughout their lives. In living between and beyond cultures, we have experienced the challenges of fragmented identity and cultural code switching. But we know that our selves are more than the sum of birthplace, upbringing and where we have lived and worked along the way. We embrace culture as fluid, not a binary. We are not just a club; we are a movement.

What We Offer

Third Circles finds and creates spaces for Black and Brown adults who are looking to socialise and practice wellbeing outside of home and work. We are based in Amsterdam with plans to expand to other cities in the next year. Our primary offerings are:

  • A curated directory of public events such as concerts, performance and exhibitions – all featuring Black and Brown creatives
  • A weekly online meditation class with an experienced Black female yoga instructor
  • Our own privately organised Third Circles events that cater to the diverse, seasonal interests of our community such as dance classes, canal cruises and cooking workshops

About the Founder

mipe (she / her) is the founder of third circles – an idea developed from her lived experiences navigating cultures.

growing up in the u.s. with west african and carib heritage. studying in england. living and working in sub-saharan africa and continental europe. travelling around the world.

wherever she found herself, mipe connected with others who shared a similar lived experience of life between and beyond cultures. in these connections, she heard a collective desire to reject pressures to fit in, a collective desire to be one’s fullest and realest self.

as a practising yogi, she understood this as a desire for wholeness through embracing all of who we are regardless of where we are. third circles is a movement towards this wholeness. a movement to find, create and thrive in spaces where we can feel fully ourselves.
