About

My Phantom Limb is a fusion of fragments, songs, and verses, intricately woven with video and visual art. The piece delves deeply into Aryeh's family's Holocaust experiences, his opposition to the far-right government of Israel, and his military service. These personal and political threads converge at a critical moment—on the brink of regional war, as Israel reacts hysterically to a terror attack. It is in this context that Aryeh's brother and musical collaborator, Avshalom, decides to return to Israel just a week before their performance in Amsterdam. However, Aryeh chooses to stay in Europe, no longer willing to sacrifice himself for the ideal of a Jewish state.

After years of fighting for his country, protesting, and creating resistance art, Aryeh becomes ensnared between his former beliefs and a growing sense of cynicism. At the core of the performance is the metaphor of a "Zionist Phantom Limb"—a haunting pain from a lost part of his identity. In this dance with demons, the ghosts of Aryeh's past confront him, demanding answers about survival, self-sacrifice, and solidarity as he struggles with his identity and the significance of his journey. Aryeh is accompanied by Alkistis Misouli on viola and additional vocals. [Source (Original or ML Translation): Theater Bellevue]
