About
On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, we turn our attention to the most dynamic district of the city, Amsterdam Zuidoost. Although this district is younger than other parts of the city, Zuidoost has a rich and complex history. What are the stories of its residents? Which lesser-known stories remain untold? In a hybrid exhibition, in which visual art created by AiRich, Dion Rosina and Jesper Buursink is combined with a short movie, the unique culture of Zuidoost comes to life.
In the short film, made by Sammy Shifa Idris, Rotjoch (Angelo Diop) goes on a journey through Southeast together with storytellers and artists; Ernestine Comvalius, Orville Breeveld, George Adegite, Ocho & Ibs, Sarah-Jane, Mr. Jetfly (Marlon Francis), Cho (Giovanni Essed), MC Lost and also Dion Rosina, AiRich and Jesper Buursink.
Together they visit three public artworks from the Buitenkunst Amsterdam collection called, 'Kariatidenzuil' by Joost Barbiers, 'City Cells' by Karin van Dam, and 'Nelson Mandela Memorial: Rona Batho' by Mohau Modisakeng'. In the videos the participants discuss how these works are connected to themes that are relevant to the identity of the city district and the experience of the community.
Program will be announced soon.
