About
If in 2009 her work had not been discovered in an abandoned house that she used as her summer retreat, we might never have heard of Florence Price again. She was the first African-American woman to be taken seriously as a composer of symphonic music. Today, her music resonates alongside another artist dedicated to social justice: the Namibian Shishani. This singer-songwriter, public speaker, anthropologist, musicologist, and activist is renowned for their hit song "Minority."
The rebel club Pynarello continues its unique and engaged programming with this encounter between two extraordinary artists born a century apart. Confrontations can be challenging, but they often pave the way for discussions on significant topics and create opportunities for connection. Worlds collide; that of an early 20th-century African-American and a young artist with roots in Namibia, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Explore the diversity of our programming for 2024/2025 through these tracks. [Source (Original or ML Translation): Muziekgebouw]
