About
The lunch theater performance "Abroad" is part of a transmedia project by Kimberley Agyarko focusing on migration and identity. She explores themes such as broken families, intergenerationality, and the relationship between parent and child across three different media: a documentary, a podcast, and a performance. In the documentary, Kimberley travels to Ghana to investigate her connection to her motherland and the impact of migration and integration on herself and her family. In the podcast, she engages in conversations with others about the next generation: how do you want and can you pass on your roots and identity to your children? "I try to highlight and address different aspects through each medium. In the performance I am currently writing, I specifically focus on the patterns within a family and their influence on both the child and the parent. The performance is about the relationship between a father and daughter, both pursuing their own dreams and navigating life in their own ways. They struggle to break free from familial patterns, commitments, and expectations they have of each other," says Kimberley Agyarko. The performance will premiere on May 3 at Theater Bellevue. The documentary and podcast will follow later in 2025. The three media are interconnected, yet also stand alone. [Source (Original or ML Translation): Theater Bellevue]
